MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE RENEWAL GUIDE (LKM)

Motor Vehicle License (LKM) renewal applications can be submitted by the registered owner or representative. The registered owner or representative must submit the MyKad for the purpose of reading and recording into the MySikap system through the MyKad reader. This is intended to ensure that the records of applicants who attend can be stored in the JPJ database as a reference in the matter of LKM renewal.

A. MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE RENEWAL (LKM) FOR PRIVATE VEHICLES AT THE JPJ COUNTER.

Application conditions :-

1. Applications can be submitted by the registered owner or representative at any State JPJ Office / Branch / UTC.

2. The renewal period allowed is six (6) months or one (1) year.

3. The vehicle must have insurance coverage for the period of LKM applied for.

4. Only LKM that will expire within two (2) months can be renewed.

5. If the registered owner has been declared deceased, renewal of LKM is allowed for a period of six (6) months only for each application for a period not exceeding five (5) years. The application must be approved if the period of death has exceeded five (5) years.

6. For vehicles whose last LKM expiry date is more than three (3) years from the date of application, the vehicle must undergo and pass the vehicle inspection as follows :-

     a.  PUSPAKOM inspection for all vehicles: or

     b.  PG10 inspection of motorcycles owned by individuals only and motorcycles inspected during programs organized by JPJ or motorcycles seized by JPJ only.

7. For LKM renewal applications submitted in the declaration area where the LKM rate is lower than the original declaration area, the change of declaration area by the registered owner must be made before the LKM renewal process is carried out.

Required documents :-

1. Identity document of the registered owner or representative present.

2. PUSPAKOM inspection report that is still valid if the motor vehicle is inactive.

3. PG10 inspection for motorcycles owned by individuals only and motorcycles inspected during programs organized by JPJ or motorcycles seized by JPJ only.

4. For vehicles whose registered owner has died more than 5 years, it is necessary to bring a document showing that the process of dividing the inheritance has started or any other document for approval consideration.

5. Vehicle declaration area certificate form where the vehicle is used (Sabah, Sarawak and Duty Free Islands)

6. Customs Declaration (K3) / Port Receipt (Sabah, Sarawak and Duty Free Islands).

B. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE RENEWAL (LKM) AT THE JPJ COUNTER.

Application Conditions :-

1. Applications can be submitted by the registered owner or representative at any State JPJ Office / Branch / UTC.

2. The renewal period of the Motor Vehicle License (LKM) is as follows :-

      2.1 Commercial and Trailer vehicle types are a minimum of seven (7) days, a maximum of a year for the first two (2) years after new registration and a minimum of seven (7) days, a maximum of six (6) months after the two (2) year period ends.

     2.2 Type of Container Trailer Vehicle is a minimum of seven (7) days, a maximum of a year for the first ten (10) years after new registration and a Minimum of seven (7) days, a maximum of six (6) months after the ten (10) year period expires.

3.  The vehicle must have insurance coverage for the period of LKM applied for.

4.  Only LKM that will expire within two (2) months can be renewed.

5. PUSPAKOM’s periodic inspection date that is still in effect for the period of LKM applied for.

6. For non-operating Commercial vehicles (Lay-up), they need to undergo and pass a PUSPAKOM inspection.

7. Permits issued by SPAD or LPKP Sabah or LPKP Sarawak or MOTAC or JKPIM must be valid for the period of LKM applied for.

8.  Used imported dumper / tipper vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeding 21,000 kg or rebuilt vehicles with a GVW exceeding 38,000 kg that are registered as off-road vehicles cannot be licensed and issued LKM.

9. For LKM renewal applications submitted in the declaration area where the LKM rate is lower than the original declaration area, the change of declaration area by the registered owner must be made before the LKM renewal process is carried out.

Required Documents :-

1. Identity document of the registered owner or representative present.

2. PUSPAKOM Inspection Report which is still in effect.

3. Vehicle declaration area certificate form where the vehicle is used (Sabah, Sarawak and Duty Free Island).

4. Customs Declaration (K3) / Port Receipt (Sabah, Sarawak and Duty Free Islands).
