Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)
All categories of vehicles covering private vehicle (both individual and company owned), commercial vehicle and embassy / goverment vehicles that wish to enter Malaysia are required to register online via RTD’s official website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my
Yes. However vehicle owners must register and obtain a VEP RFID tag before October 1, 2024.
The owner or representative appointed by the owner of foreign registered vehicle entering Malaysia are required to register online via RTD’s official website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my (Please ensure that all information declared are complete and accurate to obtain your confirmation slip that will be emailed to you)
No. Registration can only be done through the official website of the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) at https://vep.jpj.gov.my. Vehicle owners can obtain a VEP RFID tag either by attending the VEP Tag Collection Center (VCC) in Danga Bay or having it sent by post to their address.
Vehicle owners can check the expiry date of the VEP RFID tag through the online portal. Renewal notifications for the VEP RFID tag will be sent to vehicle owners 60 days, 30 days, and 10 days before the expiry date.
Yes. The vehicle owner is required to update all information online via RTD’s official website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my
VEP registration through the website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my is mandatory for all foreign vehicles that wish to enter Malaysia. Any foreign vehicle that enters Malaysia without a valid VEP permit is an offense under Section 66H(7) APJ 1987. If convicted, a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six (6) months.

If you forget your VEP account password, you can reset it online by clicking the "Forgot Password" button on the VEP Portal.
VEP renewal can be done online by visiting the official JPJ website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my. Vehicle owners need to update their details before submitting the renewal application.

- NRIC card as per registered in VEP Portal
- Registration document issued by LTA
- Notification on Transfer of Ownership issued by LTA.

VEP registration that have expired, after five years from the date of registration, will be automatically deregistered. Vehicle owners can proceed to apply for VEP registration online by visiting the official JPJ website at https://vep.jpj.gov.my.
No. Only vehicles with a valid road tax and insurance are allowed to enter Malaysia.

Road Charge (RC)
All foreign registered vehicle (private registered/private organisation) entering Malaysia will be required to pay Road Charge of RM20 per entry.
Only foreign private owned (vehicles owned by individuals, companies or organizations for private usage) vehicle is subjected to Road Charge.
Vehicles that are exempted from Road Charge are :
- Any goverment owned vehicle on official duty and embassy vehicles.
- Commercial vehicles and motorcyles.
You can use the Touch N' Go card to pay road charge or with your Touch n’ Go ewallet app, which you have installed when you collect your VEP RFID tag
Road charge is based on per entry.
The road charge is imposed on a daily basis upon each entry to Malaysia unless stated or declared by the Goverment of Malaysia.
All foreign vehicles (vehicles owned by individuals, companies or organizations for private usage) will be charged RM20 when entering Malaysia.
Touch ‘n Go Card can be top up/reloaded at designated Touch ‘n Go locations such as R&R, or toll booths, petrol stations, convenience stores & etc. Please refer to http://www.touchngo.com.my for further information.
No. Only Ringgit Malaysia is accepted at Touch n’ Go top up counters.
Road Charge payment can only be done via the Touch ‘n Go card or or with your Touch ‘n Go ewallet app, which you have installed when you collect your VEP RFID tag.
Road charge is mandatory under Road Transport Act 1987. Failure to pay Road Charge when entering Malaysia is an offence and the driver of the vehicle can be fined under the Road Transport Act 1987.
No. Road Charge is not a toll fee. It is governed by the Road Transport Act 1987.
VEP RFID Tag
After the registration process is completed at https://vep.jpj.gov.my, the applicant can proceed with payment and selection of tag collection option at https://vepams.jpj.gov.my by following the guide that has been provided at the portal.
Tag Processing Fee: RM10
Collection Agent Service Fee: RM29.50
Courier service Fee: Subject to the charge imposed by the courier service provider.

VEP RFID Tag is valid for 5 years only (starting from the day the VEP RFID tag is activated).
The VEP RFID tag is unique to each vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
If the VEP RFID Tag is stolen / lost / damaged from accident, you are required to update your vehicle status from the online portal register. You are also required to produce police report to the Road Transport Department (RTD) when you collect the new VEP RFID tag. An administration fee will be imposed.
You will know your VEP RFID tag if faulty when it cannot be detected by the RFID reader at the CIQ complexes and it is confirmed by the RTD personnel. However, the replacement policy does not apply to tag that has been removed or tampered. In this case, you will be charged with a fee for reissuance of a new VEP RFID tag.
No. All foreign-registered vehicles are required to obtain the VEP RFID Tag from the Road Transport Department (RTD).
