VTA Application Procedure

The Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) process is a process that is carried out on all new models of vehicles before the registration process is allowed. This process was introduced to control the identity, dimensions, weight, construction characteristics and specifications of a vehicle in order to meet all the specifications set under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Road Transport Rules.

In order to ensure that this process runs transparently and smoothly, a committee known as the National Committee for Type Approval and Homologation has been established to evaluate each Vehicle Type Approval application made to ensure that every aspect of the vehicle is in line with the current regulations set. This committee is chaired by the Director General of Road Transport Malaysia and is composed of various related government and private agencies such as SIRIM, MIROS, MITI, MOT, KASTAM, PUSPAKOM, JAS, KPDNKK, MOSTI, Standards Malaysia and also the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI).
